Use these two words wisely

Two words.

Just two words stand between you and your future. Two little words that will dramatically shift your mood, actions and results. Yes, I know it may sound overly theatrical but it’s how you interpret and choose to use these words that can dictate your success or failure. What are these words?

What if

What if…..two words with endless possibilities.

You have between 50,000 and 70,000 thoughts every day. Many of them run on auto-pilot, an endless stream just below your consciousness. When was the last time you noticed the content of your thoughts?  Take some time today to be aware of what you’re saying to yourself.  I recommend that you set a reminder on your phone every hour for one day and when it sounds, tune in. What do you hear?

The words “what if” can be a source of frustration and disappointment or you can use them to lift your hopes and give fuel to your dreams.

Do you let your inner critic run roughshod all over your dreams and plans? Maybe your inner voice says some of these things whenever you think about your coaching business:

  • What if I suck at it?
  • What if I can’t get any clients?
  • What if no one shows up to my webinar?
  • What if people think my ideas are stupid?
  • What if I fail?
  • What if I can’t figure it out?
  •  What if they’ve heard it all before?

Can you hear the panic? The decision that it’s not even worth getting your hopes up? How often do you hold yourself back with excuses or catastrophizing like this?

Try this instead….when you hear the “what if’s” start. Play with the phrase and substitute them with new what if’s that are fun and hopeful. Try these:

  • What if they love it?
  • What if my calendar was completely full?
  • What if it works even better than I imagine?
  • What if I reach my goals?
  • What if I try it this way instead?
  • What if my coaching has a major positive impact?
  • What if I can do it?

When you change your focus, watch your mood improve. As you kindle your enthusiasm, you will begin to feel better and more hopeful. When you feel good you are more likely to have a positive approach to a networking meeting or working in your business and you will get more positive results.

What if….what if indeed. 😊
