Your 10-Min Morning Routine

This One Practice Changes Everything: Your 10-Minute Morning Routine

It’s December 2019 and my inbox is full of emails that say ”not to scare you  or anything but it’s December and the end of the decade!!!!!!”

“…what are you going to do in the last month of the whole decade to make it meaningful?!?!?!”

The message is, you’ve got 30 days left until the deadline. It’s GO TIME and you need to HUSTLE HARD to reach your goals.

Really?

I hate feeling rushed.

When I'm rushed, I feel irritated and grumpy.

What about you? Does the extra pressure help?

My guess is a big resounding NO.

I know that my thoughts create my feelings and my emotions drive my actions.

And ultimately my actions create my results….my life.

I look at it this way.

We’ve had 10 years in this decade.

120 months.

Showing up at the last minute in a panic is not the way to make it meaningful or create lasting success.

If this is a wake-up call and you realize you want a more meaningful life. That's wonderful, now is a great time to stop putting your dreams on hold. Use this month to plan and think about what you really want. Decide on the positive impact you want to make.

When I tell myself to hurry up, I feel panicky.

When I’m worried and anxious my mind isn’t primed for productive thinking and action.

In fact, it mostly runs around like a chicken.  🐔🐔🐔

Then since I’m not making progress, I get even more freaked out….and before I know I’ve spun out of control.

Guess what, I feel panicky even writing this! (don’t laugh 🤣🤣🤣)

The end of the year, the end of a decade are arbitrary measures. I’m not saying you shouldn’t have goals that you work towards or that you should shelve your ambition.

I am saying that when I feel centred and aligned, I get better ideas, inspired ideas.

And those are the ideas that really move the needle in my business.

So how do I get centred and aligned?

Oh, I thought you would never ask.

I credit my morning routine.  If you’ve never had a morning routine, it’s one of the best ways to start an effective and inspired day. One where you can actually GSD (get s*&t done).

And it doesn’t have to be long and drawn out. I’ve got a morning routine you can do in 10-minutes flat.

I wanted to give you this framework because so many of you have kids at home, or you’re juggling your career while growing your business.  So, I’ve designed a morning routine that is short, sweet and super effective.

I call it “Zero-To-Four” because that’s exactly what it is.

Zero-To-Four Morning Routine

Here’s how to start your morning on the right foot so you can make the most of this last month of the year. 🌄

It’s five steps, each step uses a number as a prompt. Do them in order for one week and you’ll start to notice an improvement in how you feel.  You’ll feel calmer, more aligned and you’ll be getting more accomplished too.

0 – Zero distractions

Start your day with zero distractions. Set your alarm to wake up 10-minutes earlier than normal, so you have uninterrupted time for your morning routine.

Zero distractions means don’t look at your phone first thing when you get out of bed. Avoid social, emails, notifications and texts for the first part of your day.

This is your time, prioritize your needs for these few minutes.

1- Drink a tall glass of water 💧

Your body is dehydrated first thing in the morning. Drink a tall glass of water!

2 – Find two things you are grateful for 🎉🎉

While you’re drinking your water, think of two things that you are grateful for. They can be simple things, like anticipating your first cup of coffee, that you have fresh clean water at the turn of the tap or even the quiet of the house before the day starts.

Feel the gratitude for your blessings.  Being thankful makes us happier and we all want to be a little happier!

3 – Be quiet, meditate for 3-minutes 🧘🏼‍♀️🧘🏼‍♀️🧘🏼‍♀️

Set a timer, be quiet and sit for 3-minutes. Spend the 3-minutes focussed on your breath.  Feel the breath enter through your nostrils, fill your lungs then notice the sensation as the air leaves your body.

If you would prefer to try a mini-guided meditation here are a few to experiment with.

It’s funny, many people are nervous to meditate. They tell me “I get distracted or I fall asleep”. They worry they won’t do it right.

Here’s the thing there is no perfect way to meditate. We all get distracted; the purpose of meditation is not to avoid distraction but for you to train yourself to notice when you get distracted and gently bring your attention back.

4 – Move your body for 4 minutes 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️

Stand up and move around. Stretch, do a few sun salutations, swing your arms back and forth, do some squats.  It doesn’t matter what you do, just move and get your blood flowing.

That’s it! Now you’re ready to greet the day.

PS. I've created a free PDF download that summarizes this morning routine and includes a checklist to help you start and build the habit of a powerful morning routine. You can get your copy here>>> HERE
