The Consistent Client Method: Here's How It Works Ep 440
Over eight episodes of the Build Your Business Like a Coach series, I've been making one argument: coaches don't need to become better marketers. We need a better way to create clients, one built around what we're already good at. Curiosity. Listening. Asking thoughtful questions. Noticing patterns.
I call that approach The Consistent Client Method. Here's how it actually works.
Picture a triangle
There are three parts, and each one feeds the next: Conversations, Authority, Clients, then back to Conversations. What makes this different from traditional marketing is where it begins. Not content, not a website, not an offer. Curiosity.
Part one: Conversations
You choose something you genuinely want to understand about the people you most want to coach, then go talk to people about it, through a survey, interviews, or both. The purpose is the same either way: stop guessing and start listening.
Part two: Authority
This is where you take what you've learned and turn it into something useful, a report, a masterclass, a body of content. You move from "here's what I think" to "here's what I discovered," and that shift is subtle but powerful, because you're no longer trying to manufacture authority. You have something to stand on.
Lindsey is an anesthesiologist who coaches female physicians. Her work became a white paper, a masterclass, a lead magnet. But the real transformation wasn't the marketing, it was what happened to Lindsey. She told me, "I no longer feel like a car salesman. Now I have data I gathered myself to back everything up." When a woman tells her, "I feel like I'm just going through the motions," Lindsey can say, "You're not alone." And then the line I love: "I can prove it."
That's authority you don't have to fake. Not "I'm the world's leading expert." Simply, "I've spent time understanding this. I've listened. Here's what I've learned." Karolina experienced the same thing through her project on self-care for mothers: "The research gave me something I could stand on. My own data. My own findings. My own voice."
Part three: Clients
This is where the method becomes most interesting, because the client doesn't simply appear at the end of a funnel. They can emerge at multiple points throughout the process, sometimes as early as the first invitation you send. Instead of saying "look at me," you're saying "look at this," and that shift changes everything about how visibility feels for a thoughtful coach.
Why it's a flywheel, not a staircase
Conversations create authority. Authority creates more conversations. Conversations create clients. Clients deepen your understanding. Then the cycle continues, and eventually you're not manually creating every single opportunity yourself. The work starts helping you.
You can enter this triangle from almost anywhere: brand new with nothing but a question, or years into your business with a body of work you've never fully connected. Either way, it gives your business a center: what are you learning about the people you serve?

Keep asking great questions. Because the best coaching businesses aren't built by shouting louder. They're built one thoughtful conversation at a time.
