From Burnout to $300K More: Metabolic Leadership with Dr.Abiola ep 387

I had a conversation recently that completely reframed something I thought I already understood. My guest was Dr. Abiola Oladoke, founder of ONA Wellness Group, and she introduced me to a concept called metabolic leadership. By the end of our conversation, I was looking at coach burnout in a way I never had before.

Here is what stopped me: one of Dr. Abiola's clients was a coach who could not bring herself to make her sales calls. She was always finding something else to do. Running errands. Doing housework. There was always a reason. Most coaches, and honestly, I would have been in this camp too, would call that a mindset problem. Dr. Abiola called it a clue.

Your Body Is Sending You Signals You Might Be Misreading

What she shared in our conversation is that procrastination, avoidance, and low motivation are not always psychological. Often they're biological. They are the body's way of saying that something in the underlying infrastructure is not working well enough to support the demands being placed on it. The brain and body simply do not have the resources to fuel the level of focus, courage, and energy that showing up in your business requires.

This isn't a character flaw. It's not a discipline problem. It's your system telling you something. And according to Dr. Abiola, when you actually address what is happening at the metabolic level, things can shift with surprising speed. That same client who could not make her calls went on to generate $300,000 more in her business. Not because she found a new strategy. Because her body finally had what it needed to execute the strategy she already had.

What Metabolic Leadership Actually Means

The framework she uses is built around several core pillars: nutrition, physical capacity, brain health, sleep, and nervous system regulation. What makes her approach different from simply going to see a nutritionist or a personal trainer is that she looks at all of these together, uses biomarker testing and epigenetics to understand what is actually happening beneath the surface, and then connects the findings directly to how a person is performing in their business.

She described it beautifully in our conversation. She said that when she was studying organizational leadership, the conversation was always about human capital. But almost nobody was looking at human capital from a metabolic perspective. And when you start to, you realize that a huge amount of what we attribute to mindset, motivation, and discipline is actually downstream of biology. When the biology is addressed, the mindset work lands differently. It sticks. It compounds.

The Mindset Ceiling No One Talks About

This is the part of our conversation that I keep coming back to. I work with coaches every day who are doing the inner work. They are journaling, doing the self-inquiry, building their beliefs. And yet something still feels stuck. What Dr. Abiola is pointing to is that there is a ceiling to mindset work when the body is not resourced enough to hold the shifts you are trying to make.

She also talked about neurodivergence in a way I found really refreshing. She has ADHD herself, and rather than framing it as a limitation, she described it as a superpower that only became fully accessible once her biology was properly supported. When her body was resourced, the ADHD qualities, the creativity, the multi-tasking capacity, the ability to see patterns across many domains, became fuel rather than friction.

Your Business Can Only Grow as Far as Your Biology Allows

Dr. Abiola made a comparison in our conversation that I thought was exactly right. She said that a generation ago, nobody had personal trainers. Then they became normal. A generation ago, therapy was unusual. Now it is expected. She sees metabolic leadership as the next frontier in how entrepreneurs take care of themselves, not as a luxury but as a foundation.

I think she is right. As coaches, we are often the last person we take care of. We pour into our clients, into our content, into our programs, and we treat our own health as the thing we will get to eventually. What this conversation reminded me is that eventually might be costing us far more than we realize.

If you are a coach who has ever wondered why you are doing all the right things and still feel like you are running on empty, I would encourage you to listen to this full conversation with Dr. Abiola. It may be one of the most practically useful episodes I have released.
