How to Trust Your Intuition and Reclaim Your Power in Business ep 378

I recently had a conversation with Jean Border that I keep coming back to. Jean is a holistic intuitive coach with 36 years of leadership experience, a world traveler who has been to all 50 US states, dozens of countries, and Antarctica. She is also, as she was quick to point out, a deeply logical and practical person. That combination is exactly what made our conversation so useful.

The thread running through everything Jean said was personal power. Not power in a forceful or aggressive sense. Power as in: the ability to trust yourself, make your own choices, and stop outsourcing your inner authority to everyone else around you. As someone who works with coaches every day, I found myself nodding through almost everything she said.

Your Body Knows Before Your Brain Does

Jean made a point early in our conversation that really landed for me. She said that when you feel drawn toward something, that is your body saying "I want more of this." When you feel inner resistance, that is your body saying "something here is not safe or aligned." Most of us have been taught since childhood to override those signals in favor of what we think we should do. Every time we do that, Jean says, we give away a piece of our personal power.

I have my own version of this belief. I think of the body as a lie detector. It measures the signal before the mind has a chance to rationalize. The challenge is that most of us have spent so many years not listening to it that we have lost confidence in what we are feeling. Jean's work is about helping people rebuild that trust, starting with the small signals and working outward from there.

The Language That Is Keeping You Stuck

One of the most practical things Jean shared was about the words we use when we talk about ourselves and our results. Specifically, she pointed to the language of absolutes. Phrases like "I always lose money when I launch" or "I'm always getting sick" leave no room in the subconscious for any other outcome. You have literally told your brain that this is the fixed reality.

The shift is simple but not small. Instead of "I always lose money when I launch," try "that launch did not go the way I wanted." That is an event, not an identity. It is open-ended. It leaves room for something different to happen next time. Jean drew a beautiful parallel here: a baby learning to walk does not lie in the crib and say "I am always falling over, I will never walk." They just keep getting up. We somewhere along the way forgot to apply that same grace to ourselves.

What EFT Tapping Actually Does

Jean introduced me to the EFT tapping protocol she uses with clients who have money blocks, and I want to explain it clearly because I think a lot of people dismiss it before they understand what is actually happening. EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. It involves tapping on specific points on the body, which Jean describes as the energy highways, meridian lines used in acupuncture. When you tap on these points while focusing on a specific block or belief, it essentially breaks up the stuck energy around that belief, the same way clearing a traffic jam on a highway allows everything to start moving again.

Jean has created a specific tapping protocol focused on income blocks. She shared an example that many coaches will recognize: the belief that rich people are greedy, and therefore if I become wealthy, people will think I am greedy too. That one belief, held unconsciously, can quietly sabotage every sales conversation, every pricing decision, every launch. Tapping does not talk you out of the belief. It physically interrupts the energetic charge around it so you can see it clearly and release it.

Designing a Business Around Your Values

The part of our conversation I found most personally resonant was Jean's definition of success. She said that her revenue goal is not her measure of success. Her measure of success is whether she is able to fund the experiences that matter most to her: travel, music, meaningful conversations with interesting people. Revenue is the vehicle. The experiences are the destination.

This is something I say to my own clients regularly. When your business is built around what you actually value, it stops feeling like something you are forcing and starts feeling like something that supports the life you are already living. Jean is living proof of that. She is planning a worldwide speaking cruise. She already has clients on multiple continents. She built the business to go wherever she wants to go.

The one thing she wants every listener to carry away from this conversation is this: you are more powerful than you think. You just have to give yourself permission to say yes to what is right for you and no to what is not.
