Do People Pay For Coaching? Ep128

Do You Secretly Believe No One Will Pay For Coaching? Ep128

Hi, I’m so glad you’re here. This is another of the episodes I recorded in Mexico. As I plan this episode, I’m sitting out here on the deck admiring the view. The day is heating up and I’m glad for a slice of shade as I write this episode.

Now here's the episode,

Do you secretly believe that no one will buy coaching from you? That no one will ever want to pay you for coaching. Oh don’t worry if you’ve been harboring that sneaky little thought – you’re not alone and that’s why I’m recording this one for you.

The clients you are looking for already exist.

And in fact they are already looking for help.

They might be looking on google, on social media, on Amazon, asking a friend but they're searching.

And many of them don’t know what to do next, they might even be at their wits’ end. People either want more of something or less of something

They’ve already spent time and energy trying their best to get a specific result.

Not only are they looking for help, but they also want to solve their problem, badly. So badly many are willing to do something about it, take action and spend money for a solution.

And these are the people who could easily be your clients.

If you’ve got a problem, it’s only natural you want a solution. Sometimes you don’t know what the solution even is…and in many cases coaching could be that solution

Let’s break this down into four criteria:

  1. These people already exist and they're going about their day-to-day life
  1. They want something different. They have an issue they want to solve.
  1. They're already looking for how to solve it.
  1. They're ready to invest, time energy and money, to get what they want. It’s only natural that they want to pay for a solution. If they’ve done what they can and their desire is strong enough, they’ll be more than willing to pay for that solution.

If any of the four criteria are missing they are not a match to work with you.

Of course, we know they exist – so the first one’s a gimme. But how often do you really think about this…really know that your clients, and in fact more potential clients than you could ever need or desire are already going about their daily business right now.

We all have challenges; we want something different. No matter how great your life is at the moment there are other things you would like. Maybe you’ve got a beautiful home and tons of friends but you haven’t met the love of your life or you want a healthy savings account.  Life can be great and we are always looking for more even in our current state of satisfaction.

Anytime you’ve got an issue that you want resolved or you want to improve something in your life you’re going to be primed to look for help.  Maybe it’s casually keeping an eye open, maybe it’s asking your friends, maybe it’s scrolling on social.

Now that fourth criteria is the key. They have something they want, they are looking for help (and you are the coach that can help them) and they are willing to pay for the help. Some people want help, but they still want to try it on their own. Some want help but they’re not yet ready to do the work, they’re still thinking/planning/dreaming. Others really can’t afford your help right now, but maybe they will save up for the future. Others want help but they don’t have enough motivation to hire you….maybe they’re not ready yet or even they don’t know you can help them.

In some cases, it’s a matter of time, so that person may be in your circle of influence already…but they’re just not quite ready yet to reach out and book a consult or they might not even remember that you’re a coach and that you can help them.

What to do you do? You’re ready to create clients…well they need to know you’re a coach. That might seem obvious, but just because you mentioned it casually to a couple of people one time, or posted it once on social media, or sent one note to a colleague doesn’t mean they read it and understood it.

You offer a service, a solution, and there’s a price, so it’s completely normal that people want to pay you for it. And it’s completely normal for you to offer it and to invite people to work with you so it’s time to stop holding yourself back from inviting them.

If you get hung up mistakenly thinking that “people don’t want to pay for coaching” – I’d like to suggest you somehow think coaching is different that any service or product. But it’s not

Listen to these examples.

I want to get over an injury. Of course, I pay to go to a physiotherapist and do the recovery exercises.

I want to feel pampered/luxurious. So it’s a no brainer for me to go to the spa for a facial or pedicure.

I want to stay healthy and enjoy my life. Makes sense that I buy organic food.

I want to feel excited about life or finally get over imposter syndrome. So naturally, I pay for life coaching.

So, remember sometimes:

- they aren’t willing yet,

-or they aren’t willing because they don’t know you exist,

-or they aren’t yet willing because they don’t know what coaching is.

-or they aren’t willing because they don’t know that your coaching can help them get what they want fast.

Solve those four challenges and signing clients will be easier

Remember it’s normal to pay for help and coaching helps. All right that’s it for today!

I’m glad you’re here listening to me… and now I want to hear from you.

What did you learn from this episode?

Post a screen shot of this episode and and tag me @candymotzek. Tell me what you learned and what you’re going to do next.

And if you want even more help, maybe you’ve had enough of trying to figure it all out on your own or taking hours and hours piecing together a solution by going to the googles or watching YouTube videos.  Then we should talk about how we can work together.
