Focus On The Vision Ep:072

Episode 72: Focus on the vision not the problems

Are you a problem solver?

Do you find that you spend a lot of time thinking about your problems? Dissecting them, analyzing them, and considering ways to solve them?

You might be thinking

I don’t know what my niche is.

I can’t start signing clients until I know who I help?

Or

How will I get clients? Where exactly do I start?

You might pride yourself on being a deep thinker or a very analytical person

Back in Episode 33 Grow Your Coaching Business Like A Garden I spoke about how it helps to think of your coaching business like a garden.

You want to create a good foundation, good nutritious soil, carefully plant the seeds, water and nurture those little seedlings.

The aim is to create a garden filled with all kinds of amazing fruits and vegetables that you will harvest in good time.

Let’s think of all those problems as little pockets of fear. Now fear in an of itself isn’t a problem, it’s a natural emotion that we can listen to and then choose the best course of action.

Some of these fears, are the way your brain tries to keep you safe from moving forward. If your brain says, “oh you need a niche before you can have clients” then you’ll spend more time focusing on “finding” your niche instead of getting out there and coaching people and letting your niche find you. The more you coach the more you will find your groove and discover what niche you would like to focus on. But if you allow your fear to hold you back, you’ll never discover it. Makes sense, right?

I’d like to go back to that metaphor of the garden. Sometimes your brain wants to keep you tangled up in fear and busy-ness. And It’s like it’s take seeds of weeds and sprinkled them all over your magnificent garden.

As those weeds sprout, you are looking down (away from your plants) and at the ground.  Now you’re tempted to pluck every single little weed and in the middle of doing that you are forgetting that you are growing a magnificent garden.

When you’re intently focused on pulling those weed seedlings, you’re not tending to the plants that you planted intentionally. You’re not pruning them. You’re not harvesting the fruit. You’re not being thankful for the fruit that is already growing.

You’re stuck at the level of the weeds.

You’re lost in the little problems and forgot that your vision is to grow a crop of amazing veggies.

Of course, every garden will have weeds but where are you looking? Are you looking at the problems/the weeds or are you looking towards your vision, which is your crop of amazing vegetables?

Of course, you need to solve some problems, and keep the weeds under control, but not at the expense of tending to the harvest.

Focus on the solution, on the goal, on your vision of a magnificent garden instead of always on your hands and knees trying to pick up every microscopic weed

If you’re listening and you realize that maybe, just maybe you’re stuck in the weeds and you’re not sure how to get out here’s what I recommend.

Stand up (yes, physically stand up) and take a deep breath.  Get grounded and centered in your body. Feel your feet on the ground. Feel the energy in your body.

Remember why you’re doing this. If you’re like most of the amazing humans that I know you want to make a difference and make money. You want to have a positive impact on the world and to feel free! You want to coach; you want clients and you know that this is what you’re meant to be doing.

Connect with your vision.

And if you’re still in doubt, the first step for any coach (whether you’re starting out or even when if you’ve stalled is your growth) is to coach, I want you to coach and coach, and coach some more. Get great at your craft.

Find people, invite them to coach with you. If it needs to be free to start out with, that’s fine or if you want to charge a small amount that’s fine too.

Just start coaching real live humans! Help them, show up for them, hold space for them and start making a difference.

You’ll find soon that some of those problem weeds will solve themselves and some of them don’t even matter

As you create clients, soon you’ll have more demand for your service than you have space for. Once you’ve created demand, then you can begin to raise your rates.
